Perry is born July 25, 1968 in Chicago, Illinois to Laurie Metcalf Perry and Jeff Perry. Her first television roles included two episodes in the role of Jackie Harris (as seen in flashback) on her role on the ABC sitcom Roseanne as the character played by her mom. Her parents, however, did not permit her to perform until she turned an adult due to the impact stress might have on their daughter. Perry confessed that she wasn't confident in her acting during high school. She began performing as a means to connect with new people in Northwestern University after switching from Boston University. Perry had the opportunity to secure tiny TV roles on Law & Order: Criminal Intent after she graduated. The feeling of homelessness, however, caused her to move to California again where she began to work on stage. Perry was a part of Broadway in The Other Place with her mother in the year 2013. The father of her Kevin McKidd performed in Eugene O'Neill's Pulitzer prize-winning film Anna Christie alongside her in the year 2015. Perry appeared in 9 episodes on ABC's drama The Family during 2016. In 2017, she was a part-time character in the ABC political drama Scandal that starred her father. In the same year, the actress was selected to play the younger character of Mary Cooper (Sheldon Cooper's mother) on Young Sheldon, a spin-off of the CBS sitcom The Big Bang Theory again playing a young version of her mother's. The character was assigned by audition even though she has a family tie to the character.
